JOHN ROBERT BECKETT, III – Obituary

John Robert Beckett, III, of Pittsgrove, NJ, passed away on December 5, 2024, in Vineland, NJ, at the age of 80. He was the loving and devoted husband of Linda Marie Beckett (née Carter), with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. They were married on November 28, 1969, at Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church in Haddon Heights, NJ.

John is also survived by their four children: John Beckett (Devany) of Douglasville, GA; Lisa Penn (Johnathan) of Pittsgrove, NJ; Lauren Jacobs (Michael) of Clayton, NJ; and Michael Beckett (Vanessa) of Manhattan Beach, CA. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Millie Beckett, Russell Beckett, Colman Beckett, Alexis Sharapoff (Ben), Johnathan Penn, Joshua Jacobs, Logan Beckett, and Caleb Beckett. He will also be missed by his beloved dog, Lily. He was predeceased by his parents, John Robert and Irene (née Smith) Beckett, Jr.

Born on October 25, 1944, in Woodbury, NJ, John was raised in Westville, NJ, and spent 45 years as a resident of Pittsgrove, NJ. He attended three years of Catholic High School before graduating from Woodbury High School.

After high school, John proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Airman First Class prior to his honorable discharge. Following his military service, he worked for 30 years as a line splicer at Bell Telephone Company, retiring in February 2002. He was also a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

Outside of work, John was known for his love of family and his appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. He cherished spending time with his wife, particularly enjoying meals out at Carollos Family Restaurant, their favorite spot. John also loved spending time in his backyard, whether gardening or playing fetch with his dog, Lily. An avid history enthusiast, he often spent hours watching documentaries or reading books on the subject. John enjoyed quiet evenings at home, relaxing with a good book or watching TV. Above all, John adored his eight grandchildren, and being with them brought him immense joy.

John’s warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his family, his country, and his work.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.
