HAROLD WESLEY ‘SPANKY’ CLEVENGER – Obituary

Harold Wesley “Spanky” Clevenger on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.  Age 82.  Husband of 28 years to the late Josephine (nee Ritchie) Clevenger.  Brother of Betty Jo Ryan and Peggy Philpot.  Uncle to Becky Ryan, Stacey Ryan, Michael Ryan, Scott Philpot, Doug Philpot, and Brandy Philpot.  Great-uncle to Sara Weinert and Landon Ryan.  Son of the late Harold and Sara (nee Hildrebrand) Clevenger.  Survived by his best friends Tiffany Donelow, Brandon Donelow, Taegan Donelow, Brantley Donelow, Brittany Field, and Alexis DuBois.  Predeceased by his “furry child” Ziggy.

Born and raised in Clayton, Spanky has been a resident of Carneys Point for the past 48 years.  He was a 1954 graduate of Clayton High School and proudly served two years in the US Army earning the rank of PFC.  After leaving the Army, Spanky enrolled in the University of MD where he later graduated with a degree in chemical engineering.  He worked as a chemist with Dupont for 38 years before retiring.  Spanky was a member of the Presbyterian church and loved to go to the horse racing track.  He enjoyed playing sports during high school and loved the Philly teams.  For 18 years he ran the family football pool and loved talking sports.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.  Funeral service at 11:00.  Interment Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown.  For those who so desire, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill NJ 08034-1415.  Sign the guestbook and send condolences at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
