FRANKLINVILLE MAN KILLED IN MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT
Monroe Township Police were assisted by several EMS and medics on Thursday September 7th when a fatal motor vehicle crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. on Fries Mill Road (CR655) near Route 322.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 GMC Sierra truck driven by Richard Reddie, age 80 of Franklinville was traveling north on Fries Mill Road approaching the intersection of US 322 (Glassboro Road}. A 2007 GMC Dump Truck, a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2020 Cadillac XT6 were all stopped in traffic facing north around 2079 Fries Mill Road. According to Monroe Township Police reports, as the GMC Sierra approached the area, its driver failed to perceive the stopped vehicles and the front of his truck contacted the rear of the dump truck. The force from the collision caused the dump truck to travel forward and contacted the rear of the Grand Cherokee. The chain reaction caused the Cherokee to move forward and contact the rear of the Cadillac. As a result of the crash, the driver of the GMC Sierra truck was pronounced deceased on the scene. A 52-year-old female from Clayton driving a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee received minor injuries. no injuries were reported for the 44-year-old male from Bellmawr who was driving a 2007 GMC Dump Truck or the 53-year-old female driving the 2020 Cadillac.
As police were assisting the injured at the fatal accident, a second chain-event accident occurred on Fries Mill Road just before the 322 intersection, within minutes. According to a witness at the scene, several vehicles were stopped in traffic because of the first accident and were hit from behind by a white pickup truck. Several cars were damaged, but no serious injuries were reported in the second chain event accident. Traffic around the intersection of Route 322 and Fries Mill Road was closed to traffic and detoured for almost three hours.
