FRANK GORDON MYERS – Obituary

Frank Gordon “Gordy” Myers, a lifelong resident of Clayton, NJ, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, in Voorhees, NJ, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 87 years old. Gordy is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Sara Jane “Sally” Myers (nee Frame). He was the proud father of Stacey Jarrell (Wesley), Douglas Myers (Kelly), Marcie Geyer (David), and Jane Fowler (Matthew). Gordy was also the cherished grandfather of Christopher Myers, Nicholas Myers, Cole Jarrell, Madelyn Jarrell, Thomas Fowler, Alyson Geyer, Gwyneth Geyer, and Daniel Fowler. He is survived by his sister, Connie Latham (Steve), and his faithful dog, Riley.  Gordy was the son of the late Frank Clove and Evelyn Elizabeth (nee Magee) Myers.

Gordy was born in Woodbury, NJ, on November 20, 1937, and grew up in Clayton, where he became deeply involved in his community. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1956 and attended the University of Maryland for two years before earning his degree from Rutgers University in 1969.

Throughout his life, Gordy worked as a Certified Public Accountant, a profession he pursued with dedication for many years. He retired from full-time work in 2005 but continued preparing taxes during the busy tax season through 2024.

Gordy’s commitment to his community was evident in his many roles and memberships. He proudly served for seven years in the United States Coast Guard Reserve and was an active member of several local organizations. He was a member of the Clayton Board of Education and a founding member, past president, and treasurer of the Clayton Jaycees. As a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, Gordy served as president and treasurer. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Silver Lake Association.

The outdoors, especially being on the water, was a huge part of Gordy’s life and something he loved very deeply.  Decades of summer vacations were spent at the Jersey shore, where he enjoyed fishing and crabbing off his boat.  Silver Lake was his home and where the family gathered for holidays and celebrations for 31 years.  The last 14 beautiful summers were spent at his cabin on Wilson Pond in Greenville, Maine, where he basked in the glory of the North Woods.

A man who appreciated the simple pleasures in life, Gordy had a fondness for a good cocktail, especially his daily Manhattan, which he often enjoyed with a bowl of peanuts and pretzels.  In his later years, he found joy in birdwatching, a peaceful hobby that complemented his love of fishing and hunting. He was known to light up the dance floor at weddings, always ready for a good party and a good time with family and friends.

He deeply treasured time with his family, loving every aspect of family life, and, when everyone was together sharing good food and drink, he would look around and say, “It doesn’t get any better than this!”  Gordy prioritized connections and reunions with relatives, many of whom are spread across South Jersey or reside in Canada, where his father was born and raised.

Gordy valued relationships and was a faithful, steadfast friend.  He maintained lifelong friendships from elementary school and formed strong bonds with neighbors and people he met along the way.  He enjoyed time in Maine with his hunting buddies, played pinochle with Card Club friends, took part in “Ski Club” dinners and Pocono getaways with a core group of married couples who traveled together, and, for many decades, attended annual Clayton High reunions.

Gordy’s warmth, generosity, and zest for life will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
