FEMALE FROM CLAYTON ARRESTED FOR BURGLARIES IN ELK/ FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP
On Wednesday, March 22nd at around 10:35 a.m., Franklin Township Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Little Mill Road for a report of a burglary in progress. The homeowner, who was home at the time and viewed a white female walking towards the rear of her property and break a bedroom window to gain access into the residence. The homeowner quickly contacted 9-1-1 and police immediately established a perimeter around the residence.
A s police were arriving in the area, the female fled the rear of the residence and into a wooded area along Broad Street. After a brief foot chase, the female was apprehended on the railroad tracks along the Franklin Township and Clayton border. The female was identified as Jayne Childers, age 45 of Jerry’s Avenue in Clayton.
Childers was transported to Franklin Township Police headquarters where she was interviewed and admitted to the crime. Childers was also interviewed by officers from the Elk Township Police Department and she also admitted to a residential burglary in the 100 block of Carl Avenue that occurred on Tuesday, March 21st. Childers was charged with Burglary and Criminal Mischief for the incident in Franklin Township. She was charged with Burglary and Theft for the incident in Elk Township. Childers was lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility pending a court hearing.
This investigation was a collaborative effort between the Franklin Township Police Department, Clayton Police Department and Elk Township Police Department to quickly respond to the area and take this female into custody.
