ERIKA DEPPENSCHMIDT – Obituary

Erika Deppenschmidt of Glassboro on Saturday, November 20, 2021.  Age 76.  Wife of the late Joseph Philip Deppenschmidt, Jr.  Mother of Erika Halpin (Robert), Lisa Olsen (Henrik), and the late Joseph Philip Deppenschmidt, III.  Grandmother of Kevin Halpin, Alexis Halpin, Madison Olsen, and Katey Olsen.  Sister of Anna Greenfield (Romanov) and the late Olga Rokytnyj (late Peter).  Aunt to Peter Greenfield (Jennifer).  Daughter of the late Peter Andrew and Franziska (nee Pletz) Romanov.

Born in Yugoslavia and raised in Franklinville, Erika has been a resident of Glassboro for the past 55 years.  She was a 1963 graduate of Delsea Regional High School.  After high school, Erika worked as a hairdresser and later in a sewing factory with her mother.  In the 1980s, she began working as a medical receptionist/office manager first with Dr. Steinberg which became Partners in Women’s Health, later Associates in Women’s Health, and finally at Garden State OB-GYN before retiring in 2019.

In the 1970s, Erika was active in Boy Scouts of America as a Den Leader.  From the 1970s through the early 1990s, she was a very active member of Saint James Lutheran Church in Pitman where she was a member of the women’s group and participated in many plays performed by the Saint James Players.  Since the early 2000s, Erika was a very proud Mom-Mom of four wonderful grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and watching them grow.  In her spare time, she loved to sew, making many things including wedding gowns for both of her daughters and christening gowns for her three granddaughters.  Erika loved to cook, bake, and feed everyone.  She enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and the Hallmark Channel.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.  Funeral service at 5:00 PM at the funeral home.  Interment private the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the family to assist with funeral expenses via gofund.me/dd60e197.  Sign the guestbook at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
