ELWOOD JOHN HOFFMAN- Obituary

Elwood John Hoffman of Clayton, NJ, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Age 75. Loving husband of Kathy Frances (nee Bonelli) Hoffman. Devoted father to John Paul Hoffman (Elizabeth Faye Hoffman), Arthur S. Latshaw, Jr. (Cynthia J. Latshaw), and Robert J. Latshaw (Patti A. Latshaw). Caring grandfather to Devon Cater Hoffman, Maxym Bently Hoffman, Linda C. Nitowski (Pete), Arthur S. Latshaw, III, Jamie V. Latshaw, Tiffany Marie Schepacarter (Bobby L. Schepacarter), Robert J. Latshaw, Jr., and Kyle W. Latshaw. Admiring great-grandfather to Lacey L. Nitowski and Dalton R. Schepacarter. Son of the late John and Maretta (Springer) Hoffman.  Brother of Gilbert S. Hoffman (Margaret A. Hoffman), Albert Hoffman (Pearl Watson, girlfriend), late Ray Hoffman, Evalyn E. Vineyard (Ray E. Vineyard), late Linda J. Zufall, late Carolyn Christopher, and Maretta Hammel. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. 

Born in Woodbury and a longtime resident of Clayton, Elwood was a 1967 graduate of Clayton High School. He served two years in the United States Army and proudly served during the Vietnam War. Elwood resided in Georgia for a few years until he returned to Clayton in the 1970s. On November 19, 1994, he married Kathy Frances (nee Bonelli) Hoffman, and they have been together for thirty-six years. Until his retirement in 2014, Elwood had worked as a mechanic for Toyota in Runnemede, NJ, for over thirty years. 

Despite being a hard worker, Elwood also found joy in the simple things of life. He loved riding his Harley Davidson and would always be found going on motorcycle rides with his friends. Photography also piqued Elwood’s interest, and he enjoyed taking photos. He loved to work on cars even after his retirement. When he wasn’t out and about, he always enjoyed watching movies and even playing games on the computer.  Most of all, Elwood loved to help others.  

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, with a service beginning at 10:30 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312. Interment and military honors will follow at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 240 N. Tuckahoe Road, Williamstown, NJ 08094.
