DUNCAN JOHN GRANT – Obituary

Duncan John Grant of Clayton on Sunday, January 31, 2021. Age 70. Wife of 47 years to Kathleen Frances Grant (nee McClelland). Father of Robert Grant (Anna). Grandfather of Robert Grant, Jr.; Joseph Grant; Zachary Freeman; Jonathan Freeman; Duncan Freeman; and Lucas Freeman. Brother of Donald R. Grant and brother-in-law of George McClelland (Lisa). Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Son of the late Robert Donald and Dorothy (nee Sampson) Grant.

Born in Binghamton, NY and raised in Ridgewood, NJ, Duncan has been a resident of Clayton for the past 46 years. He was a 1968 graduate of Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, NJ and proudly served seven years in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Duncan worked for many years as a long-haul truck driver for Gilliano Trucking of Glassboro, NJ.

During his teens, Duncan drove for 3-4 years in modified racing at Orange County Speedway in Mechanicstown, NY before going off to Vietnam and earned the nickname “Smokey” after burning up three cars. He enjoyed going to Bridgeport Speedway and any other nearby dirt tracks with his son, Robert, and was a fan of NASCAR. Duncan enjoyed watching football, especially the Buffalo Bills, and loved fishing. He was a member of the American Legion, US Veterans Association, and American Bowler’s Association.
