On Tuesday February 16th Delsea Girls Basketball played the Clearview Pioneers and lost a close one in overtime 50-43. Delsea fell to 5-4 on their season while Clearview moved to 6-2. The game was back and forth all night with Clearview having the biggest lead at only five points. Clearview led by two at halftime and 5 by the end of the 3rd quarter. Delsea outscored them 14-9 in the 4th quarter to tie it. Clearview outscored the Crusaders 9-2 in overtime to seal the win. Peyton Gilmore led Delsea with 20 points, 5 steals and 3 assists, Zhoei Travis added 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Alli Sieminski and Tori Kanuck each added 6 points, Sieminski hit two 3 pointers and also had 3 steals. After the Crusaders came back and tied the game in the 4th quarter, they seemed to lose their offensive flow in overtime only managing to put up 2 points. The Crusaders had 21 turnovers in the game which ultimately ended up playing a huge part in the loss, and they only got to the free throw line five times which is way under their season average. With a couple days off and a few more weeks to rest up, the girls will be in full stride next week. The Crusaders will look to end their two game losing streak before the state tournament next week having three games in just four days. Tuesday the 23rd they play Deptford, Thursday the 25th they play Cumberland and Friday the 26th they play Highland.
On Tuesday February 16th, Delsea Boys Basketball played Clearview and won 56-54 to move to 4-4 on their season. Jimmy Reilly and Enrico Barnett led Delsea both having double – doubles. Reilly had 17 points and 11 rebounds along with 6 assists and Barnett had 12 points and 12 rebounds with 3 blocks and 3 steals as well. Sadique Powell also had 13 points and 4 rebounds, but the real hero on the night was Junior guard Cole Parks who had 10 points in the game but the most important three in the final seconds. Delsea was down by two and had the final shot to tie or win the game, Parks dribbled up the floor, got some space to put up a 3 pointer and drilled it as time expired to give Delsea the win. I can only imagine how loud and crazy the gym would’ve went with a student section but ultimately a top highlight on the Crusaders season.
On Wednesday February 17th Delsea played Highland and won 73-71 to move to 5-4 on the season. Sadique Powell went off for the Crusaders dropping a career high 28 points and six rebounds. Chris Motter, Jimmy Reilly and Cole Parks all added 10 points for the Crusaders. Reilly also had 8 rebounds and 8 assists while Parks also hit two 3 pointers. Delsea led by 6 at the end of the first quarter, trailed by 6 at halftime and trailed by 13 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Delsea was down by 15 with around 4 minutes to go in the 4th quarter and stormed back. A couple steals, blocks, and 3 point plays the Crusaders came back and won the game.
On Saturday February 20th the boys played Williamstown in a cross town rivalry game. The Crusaders beat the Braves 60-54 led by another Jimmy Reilly double – double. Reilly had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and two blocks. Cole Parks and Enrico Barnett each had 12 points and Barnett had five rebounds. Sadique Powell and Landon Burns each also added 10 points in the win. Delsea moved to 6-4 on the season with two games remaining next week against Deptford and Cumberland.
