COUNTY NIGHT ROAD WORK BEGINS THIS WEEK

Night road improvements on Billingsport and Harmony Roads to begin this week

(Greenwich Township) – Gloucester County Department of Public Works will be starting the resurfacing project on Billingsport Road (CR 653) between Broad Street (SR 44) and the railroad bridge along with Harmony Road between Swedesboro Road and the I295 overpass starting this Thursday night, Oct. 19. This project is being completed in order to address the deterioration of the existing surface on both roadways. The accessible ramps will also be upgraded to meet current ADA standards. Each year the county plans to mill and pave approximately 15 miles of roadway.  Residents that use Billingsport Rd. and Harmony Rd. will see construction starting Thursday night, October 19th.

The project will consist of milling two inches of the existing asphalt and overlaying the roadway with two inches of new asphalt surface course. Wheel ruts and other pavement distortions will be removed by this pavement overlay. Existing inlet grates that not meet NJDOT standards will be replaced with new bicycle safety grates. The inlet openings not meeting NJ Storm Water Management Guidelines will be replaced or retrofitted. Traffic striping will also be replaced.

The roadway will be detoured but will allow traffic to flow in one direction throughout the length of the project. The contractor will post the detour and residents will have access to their driveways at all times. Weather permitting, South State Inc., anticipates completing the project in two nights. The hours of the project operation will commence at 7 p.m. and end at 5 a.m.
