CLARENCE JOHN ‘JUNIE’ KELLUM, JR. – Obituary

Clarence John “Junie” Kellum, Jr. of Clayton on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Age 84. Husband of 23 years to Janice Louise (nee Arensberg) Kellum. Step-father of Johanna Louise McLeer (Brian). Grandfather of Ethan and Elijah McLeer. Brother of 5. Special thanks to his brother Bernard and sister-in-law Maryann Kellum for their love and support through this difficult time and also to cousin Kitty and Robert Greene. Uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. Son of the late Clarence John and Constance (nee Patterson) Kellum.

Born in Salem, Clarence lived in Mannington and later Woodstown before moving to Clayton 23 years ago. He was a 1955 graduate of Salem High School and worked for Acme Markets for 45 years before retiring in 2002. During his time with Acme Markets, Clarence was manager for numerous stores including Salem, Woodstown, Pennsville, Washington Township, Woodbury, Glassboro, Williamstown, and Bridgeton. During his years with Acme and even before, Clarence had a small farm where he raised cows and a huge crop of various vegetables.

Clarence was a longtime bachelor living at home with his mother until one day at work his path crossed with Janice, his later wife. It took seven years of pursuing her before she agreed to go on a date with him, but they have been together and happily in love ever since. Clarence loved auctions and yard sales, whether it was going to them or having one at home, and enjoyed playing the lottery. He was loved by so many people and always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Clarence never spoke an ill-word about anyone, and it is hard to imagine anyone ever speaking an ill-word about him.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Sunday, February 20, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312. Funeral service at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment private at the convenience of the family. Sign the guestbook at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
