CHARLES E. ‘CHARLIE’ STRATTON, SR. – Obituary
Charles E. “Charlie” Stratton, Sr., age 84, of Franklinville, NJ, passed away surrounded by his
loving family on November 16, 2024.
Born in the Janvier Section of Franklinville in 1940 to Charles Warren and Mary Elizabeth
Stratton, Charlie attended and graduated from Clayton High School and went on to work
numerous jobs before spending many years working as a processing technician for Huntsman
Chemical in West Deptford, retiring in 1998. He was a life member of the Janvier Volunteer Fire
Company since he was 16 years old, and gave 68 years of service in the roles of Firefighter, Past
Fire Chief, Safety Officer and Commissioner and Treasurer on the Board of Fire Commissioners
of Fire District 3. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, gardening and loved
to bird-watch, and he was also an avid reader and enjoyed his daily newspaper. Charlie and his
wife Joanne enjoyed their membership in the Woodbury Poly Pros Retirement Group, where they
travelled on numerous trips and enjoyed gatherings with their lifetime friends from Huntsman and
beyond. He was well versed on his family history, never forgot a name or a story behind it, and
he would drop everything to help anyone who needed it. He learned at a very young age how to
fix anything and everything you put in front of him. Charlie never met a stranger – he could
always find common ground and talk to anyone and everyone he met. The true light of his life
was his wife and family, especially his grandchildren, he was so very proud of each and every one
and treasured watching them grow into adults.
Beloved husband of 61 years to Joanne R. Stratton (nee Mustaro). Devoted father of Jody
LaMarra, Charles E. Stratton, Jr. (Lucy), and Mary Jane Fuscia. Loving grandfather of Russell
IV, Maranda, and the late Dominique Fuscia, and Julia, Luke, and Olivia LaMarra. Dear brother
of the late Edith Powell (the late Jimmy). Treasured uncle of Raynor Powell, and Rick, Mike,
Lisa, and the late Joe Mustaro. He is also survived by his life-long best friend and brother in all
the ways that matter, Jack Beebe (the late Dot).
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday, November 21st from 10:00 – 11:00
