CHARLES CARLILE ‘BUTCH’ HAINES, JR. – Obituary
Charles Carlile “Butch” Haines, Jr. of Clayton on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Age 74 years. Husband of 46 years to Lavina Sue (nee Hood) Haines. Father of Charles Carlile Haines, III (Leea) of Newfield and the late Christopher Lee Haines (Danielle). Grandfather of Kaitlyn Haines, Nicole Haines, and Austin Tyler Hickman. Brother of Joyce Gallon (late Ed), Betty Witherow (late Dave), Billy Willett (Gail), and the late Michael Willett (Lisa). Son of the late Charles Carlile & Marion (nee Thompson) Haines. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Born in Camden and raised in Palmyra, Charles has been a resident of Clayton for the past 50+ years. He was a 1966 graduate of Palmyra High School and proudly served two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Charles worked as a machine mechanic for Cleveland Partitions in Vineland for 28 years before taking a job as groundskeeper with Appel Farm Arts & Music Center in Elmer for 10 years until his retirement in 2013. He was a proud, lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion and a diehard fan of the Phillies, Eagles, and NASCAR. Very much a homebody, Charles was happy working out in his yard and tending to his fishpond.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.
