CAROL S. KINKADE – Obituary

Carol S. Kinkade , 73, of Hopewell Township, passed away on Friday morning, September 30, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Loren W. and Julia K. (nee Leake) Schuh, who had been residents of Upper Deerfield Township. She attended Seabrook Elementary School and was a 1967 graduate of Bridgeton High School. She was married to James “Jim” Kinkade and the couple had just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on September 21 st . In 1980, the couple purchased the Franklinville Sentinel which they published for 25 years and built into a respected community newspaper. In 1991, they purchased the Cumberland Salem Guide at which time Carol was named publisher of the Guide while Jim continued publishing the Sentinel. Carol was a former member of the advisory board of the Bridgeton Salvation Army and was a past president and current member of the Upper Deerfield Township Historical Committee. She was also a member of the former Bridgeton Kiwanis Club. She loved to travel and took yearly trips to places in the United States and throughout Europe. Her last trip was pre-Covid trip to Cuba where she saw the results of a socialist society and spoke out about the dangers of such a system happening here. Carol loved to read and consumed books. She was also an accomplished cook and spent hours tending her garden. She was happiest when surrounded by family and cherished holidays when she would prepare lavish feasts. She is survived by her husband, James; one son, James Jr. of Shiloh; a grandson, James III of Lawrence Township; two brothers, Loren Schuh of Laurel Lake, and Terry Schuh of Rutherfordton, NC. S he is also survived by many cousins, nephews and nieces and dear friends. In addition to her parents, was pre-deceased by a brother, Dennis Schuh. A viewing/visitation will be held on Friday evening October 7 th from 6 until 8 at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton and again on Saturday morning from 9 until 10. Funeral services will follow at 10 o’clock and will be officiated by, Chaplain David Edgar of Compassionate Care Hospice. The interment will follow the service and take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested in Carol’s memory to The Bridgeton Salvation Army, 29 W. Commerce Street, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
