BEWARE OF SOCIAL SECURITY SCAM
Over the last two weeks the Franklin Twp. Police Dept. received several reports from citizens concerning phone calls received by residents of Franklin twp., Newfield Borough and Buena Borough. The calls feature an automated voice that tells the recipient that their Social Security number has been breached and that they should call them immediately to rectify a problem. So far all the caller ID’s have indicated the calls are from Texas, but it is not verifiable and they seem to be coming from overseas. If you get one or more of these calls hang up and DO NOT REPLY. They try to get people to give them their Social Security number to be used for criminal activity at a later time. There is no need to contact police, the incidents are not able to be investigated and/or prosecuted due to jurisdiction problems.
