On Saturday, January 27th at approximately 5:39 PM, Franklin Township Police were dispatched to a Buena Borough residence in the area of S. Nixon and Flower Streets for the report of a suicidal subject. The 47 year old male was making threats to harm himself via telephone to a family member that was out of state. He was allegedly armed with a knife and was threatening to burn the house down. He was the only occupant inside the home at the time.
Upon arrival, Franklin Township Police attempted to make contact numerous times over the in car PA system and via telephone with negative results. The homes surrounding the residence in question were evacuated as a precaution. The male continued to speak to the out of state family member, stating that if the police made entry he would begin to stab himself.
The Atlantic County SWAT team was activated, but prior to their arrival the male voluntarily exited the residence with the aid of a negotiator from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. The male was transported via ambulance for a psychiatric evaluation. There were no injuries to anyone involved in the incident.
