ARREST OF SHOOTING SUSPECT

Arrest of Shooting Suspect Immediate Distribution On May, 28 th 2021, at approximately 10:26 PM, the Clayton Police Department was dispatched to the Clayton Police Department Building (125 North Delsea Dr. Clayton NJ) for a report of a Gun Shot Victim. Upon police arrival, a 39-year-old male, Clayton resident was found lying behind the Police Department. The male appeared to have suffered a non-life-threatening gun shot wound to his lower leg. The responding Clayton Officers were able to determine that the shooting occurred at the victim’s current residence, located in the area of the 100 Block of South Delsea Dr. It was unknown if the shooter was still at the residence. Gloucester County EMS arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital. Clayton Police Officers then set up a perimeter around the residence where the shooting occurred, Franklin Twp, Glassboro, and Elk Twp Police Departments assisted. The Gloucester County S.W.A.T. Team (Special Weapons and Tactics Team) was requested. The S.W.A.T. team conducted an entry into the residence where the shooting had occurred and found the apartment to be empty. The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office along with our Clayton Police Detective began an extensive investigation which culminated in the arrest of Louis Taylor on Monday, June 14th. Mr. Taylor is a 30-year-old male who resided with the victim at the time of the shooting. Mr. Taylor was located in a hotel in Mt. Laurel NJ and was taken into custody without incident by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the United State Marshalls’ Service. Mr. Taylor was charged with the following criminal offenses and committed to the Salem County Jail; 2C:12-1B(2) Aggravated Assault with intent to injure another with a deadly weapon. 2C:39-4A(1) Possession of a Weapon for unlawful purpose. 2C:39-7A Certain Person not to have weapons. 2C:39-5B(1) Unlawful Possession of a Weapon-Handgun without a permit.The Clayton Police Department would like to thank the numerous law enforcement agencies, Police Communications, and County EMS, that assisted our agency during all portions of this incident. A special thank you to the members of the Gloucester County S.W.A.T. Team and the Gloucester County Prosecutors Office who sacrificed at least a portion of their Memorial Day weekend to ensure that our community was kept safe and to bring a dangerous subject to justice. *As with all defendant’s Mr. Taylor is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
