Arrest Made In Woodbury Homicide

On Thursday, November 26that approximately 9:18 pm, officers from the Woodbury City Police Department responded to 206 Hunter Street, Woodbury for a reported shooting with a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen area. Upon arrival, responding Woodbury City Police Department officers discovered 25 year-old Atiba Rose, Jr., suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Cooper University Trauma Center, Camden where he was later pronounced deceased. An autopsy conducted on Friday, November 27th by Gloucester County Medical Examiner Dr. Gerald Feigin, ruled the cause of Rose’s death as a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the manner of death as homicide.  Through follow-up investigation, detectives from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Woodbury City Police Department identified the following suspects, who were charged accordingly:   19 year-old Blackwood resident, Stefaun Corley: 1 Count: Murder, 1 Count: Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and 1 Count: Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.   On Tuesday December 1st, Corley was arrested in Chester, Pennsylvania by members of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshal’s NY-NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force. Also charged in connection with the aggravated assault of a 17 year-old Woodbury juvenile during the incident were the following;   19 year-old Deptford resident Tyriq Bundy:1 Count: Aggravated Assault.   17 year-old juvenile Deptford resident: 1 Count: Aggravated Assault. All suspects are currently in custody. Corley is being held in Pennsylvania pending extradition proceedings.   “The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and Woodbury City Police Department have concentrated our investigative resources to resolve this case that occurred on Thanksgiving night. This was a senseless act of violence where an innocent victim was killed. Our detectives have been actively collecting and analyzing evidence and pursuing investigative leads as they developed.  They have worked tirelessly and in partnership with various other law enforcement agencies to identify and arrest the individuals involved in the murder. Their level of competency and commitment to their profession directly led to bringing this case to a quick resolution,” stated Acting Gloucester County Prosecutor Christine A. Hoffman.   “The Woodbury City Police Department holds a great deal of pride in the safety and protection of our residents and community as a whole. When outside actors bring violence to our city they will be met with the most harsh of consequences. Our officers and detectives worked night and day with our counterparts at the Gloucester County Prosecutors office to bring these violent individuals to justice for their senseless acts. I want to thank all agencies that worked extremely well together in an attempt to provide the victim’s family with some level of closure in such a short period of time. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victim’s family and friends during this time of mourning. If anyone in the community is in need of a resource during this difficult time, the Woodbury City Police Department’s Chaplains are available to the public,” stated Woodbury City Police Department Chief Thomas Ryan.     This investigation is still active, and detectives believe that there are additional witnesses who may provide crucial information in this investigation. Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of their rights as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State Law.
