AARP AND UNITED WAY OFFER TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE
Press Release from UWGC
Beginning in early February, AARP volunteers will provide free assistance to taxpayers filing their annual federal and state income tax returns at seven locations throughout Gloucester County. As a result of grants secured by the United Way of Gloucester County (UWGC) and the AARP Foundation Tax Aid Program, each site offers free online filing to reduce processing time and accelerate payment of refunds. 2020 marks the 10th year of the AARP/United Way tax assistance collaboration. Last year, the Gloucester County tax-aide resulted serving 3,225 clients with 2,272 filed returns. Based on an estimated savings of $200 per return, the clients saved over $454,400 in tax filing fees. The client refunds totaled almost $2 million for the 2018 filing year. Local residents with low household incomes and senior citizens are invited to schedule tax assistance appointments at AARP tax assistance sites located at the following locations: Deptford Public Library (856-848-9149), Deptford Senior Center (856-848-9149), Glassboro Senior Citizen Center (856-881-8504, ext. 3), Monroe Township Public Library (856-728-9841), Mullica Hill Branch of the Gloucester County Library System (856-223-6033), West Deptford Library (856-845-5593) and the United Way of Gloucester County office in Thorofare (856-845-4303 ext. 13).
