STEVEN BUCHERER- Obituary

Steven Bucherer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 29, 1960, in Jersey City, he was the son of the late Joseph Vincent and Arline Theresa (née Jasienski) Bucherer.

He is survived by his devoted wife of over 30 years, Janice Marie Bucherer (née Arrigo); his children, Andrew Steven Bucherer (Tina) of Willingboro and Nicholas Patrick Bucherer of Pittsgrove; and his stepchildren: Ernie Chappine (Patty), Jonathan Chappine (Kelly), Kaitlyn Brescia (Elisha), and Joshua Chappine (Jennifer Smith), all of Hammonton. He was the cherished grandfather of Tallulah Dudley and step-grandfather to Caleb Brescia and Jonathan Chappine, Jr.

Steven was one of six siblings, survived by Joseph Bucherer (Terri) of Maryland, David Bucherer (Janet) of Easton, PA, and Adriane Desario of Parlin. He was predeceased by his sister, Staci-Ann (Jerry Boggi of Morganville), and brother, Christopher Bucherer. He was a beloved uncle to four nieces and seven nephews, and a great-uncle to two great-nieces and two great-nephews. His extended family and lifelong friend Anthony Watkins also mourn his loss.

Steven was a 1979 graduate of Hudson Catholic High School in Jersey City. That same year, he enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1983. Stationed aboard the USS Saratoga (CV-60), a Forrestal-class supercarrier, he served as an Aviation Support Equipment Technician (Mechanical) Third Class, maintaining and servicing aircraft engines with skill and dedication.

A lifelong diesel mechanic, Steven worked for several companies across South Jersey, including South Jersey Sanitation in Hammonton, Greyhound Bus Company in Pleasantville, Kennedy Concrete in Vineland, and Waste Management in Vineland, where he worked for approximately ten years before retiring in 2010 due to a work-related injury.

Steven resided in multiple South Jersey communities throughout his life, including Waterford for a year and a half, Upper Deerfield for 17 years, and Pittsgrove for the last 11 years. No matter where he lived, Steven brought a sense of community, warmth, and welcome.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping—often taking trips in his camper—and took pride in being a member of the United Sportsman’s Association of North America (USANA) in Pittsgrove. He loved driving his truck on the beach, attending horse races with Janice, and spending time at the casino playing the slots.

Saturdays were reserved for game nights, a cherished tradition where he and Janice would call into Rowan Radio to request their favorite songs. He also enjoyed live music, barbecuing, and spending time with family and friends—always seeking out joy in everyday moments.

Steven Bucherer will be remembered for his generous heart, quick wit, unwavering loyalty, and deep devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the stories, laughter, and love shared by all who knew him.
