SGT. LAPORTA’S 25 YEAR CAREER HONORED

Sgt. Steven LaPorta, who served 25 years in law enforcement, the last 17 of them with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office (GCPO), was recognized Monday, December 18th for his contributions to public safety.

“He has a long history of dedication to this department as well as other departments in the county,” said county Prosecutor Charles A. Fiore. Sgt. LaPorta was also an officer in the Newfield and Franklin Township police departments.

Prosecutor Fiore presented LaPorta, who officially retired December 1, a plaque stating that he has “been a faithful and valuable asset to this community.” At the GCPO, Sgt. LaPorta served in the grand jury, crime scene and vehicular homicide units and started the Cyber-Crime Unit in which he arrested numerous adults, some on charges of attempting to arrange sexual encounters with children in on-line chats and others for internet distribution of child pornography.

Probably the best memories I have were the 17-plus years I had the opportunity of working here with you guys,” Sgt. Laporta said to his former GCPO coworkers.  (Press Release from B. Weisenfeld of GCPO)
