SERENA MARGARET RATEB (SNYDER) – Obituary

Serena Margaret Rateb (nee Snyder) of Smithville on Saturday, March 18, 2017.  Age 47.  Wife of 16 years and partner for 7 years prior to Ashe Rateb.  Sister of David P. Snyder and his late wife Stephanie of Malaga; Kerry A. Snyder of Venice, CA; Michael B. Snyder and his wife Miriam of Vineland; Joseph H. Snyder and his wife Dana of Anchor Point, AK; and Gunnar E. Snyder and his wife Angi of Malaga.  Sister-in-law of Mohamed Rateb and his wife Sue of Brigantine.  Aunt to Roy, Danielle, Dawn, Kevin, Robbie, Alex, Quentin, Carly, Paige, Zachary, Jacob, and Luke.  Daughter of the late David L. and Corinna M. (nee Polinak) Snyder.  Also survived by her beloved dog, Griffin.
Born in Vineland and raised in Malaga, Serena lived for a time in Brigantine before moving to Smithville 16 years ago.  She was a 1988 graduate of Delsea Regional High School and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Education from Rowan University and was pursuing a Masters Degree in Special Education and English Language Arts at Stockton University.  Serena worked as a Special Education Teacher at the Hammonton Middle School and recently was an English as a Second Language Teacher at Pleasantville Middle School.  Along with her husband Ashe, Serena was a dealer in antiques at Days of Olde Antiques in Smithville.  Antiquing was her passion!  She also cared deeply for her students and would do anything she could to help them.  Serena enjoyed going out and the comradery with friends that it brought as well as Facebook and the connections it sustained with family and friends.  She adored spending time with her family.  They remember her big heart and unconditional love who was always the life of the party.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton.  Funeral Service on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.  Interment Cedar Green Cemetery, Clayton.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH  45250-0301.  Sign the guest book and send condolences at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
