MIXED WEEK FOR DELSEA BASKETBALL

Both Delsea basketball teams needed a rebound after their weekend games. The girls’ basketball team lost a tough 48-35 game to Washington Township on Saturday. The boys lost 57-53 to Williamstown and then 64-50 game to Shawnee. Both teams had two important divisional matchups during the week.

The girls’ started their week on the road on Tuesday with a tough game against division rival Triton. Delsea defeated Triton in the previous matchup 60-55. The Crusaders’ defeated the Mustangs much easier this time, defeating Triton 58-33.Wykira Johnson had another big game, scoring 16 points for the Crusaders. Glory Morton contributed 11 points, while Cara McCoy added eight points. Both Kamille Morton and Emily Evans scored six points.

Delsea would coast to victory in their next game, defeating Penns Grove 66-25. Both Wykira Johnson and Glory Morton scored 16 points. Kamille Morton had a big game, scoring 14 points. Erin Collins scored five points, while Brianna Russo scored 4. For Penns Grove Natrice Reed was nearly their entire offense, scoring 19 points.

Delsea would not be able to coast to victory in their Saturday game against Haddonfield, who stand at #13 in the NJ top 20. Delsea came in as the underdog and gave Haddonfield a good fight to the end, but ultimately Haddonfield emerged victorious 59-48.

C.C. Mooney scored 18 points, while Meghan Smart and Annie Staton both scored 14 points. Haddonfield’s ability to sink their free throws helped put them over the top.

For Delsea Glory Morton scored 18 points, while Wykira Johnson scored 15 points. Cara McCoy scored 12 points. More scoring depth would’ve helped the Crusaders in the tough matchup. Haddonfield remained undefeated after the game. Delsea will look to rebound, playing 4-13 Schalick first next week. Delsea will have a big South Jersey home game against Highland.

The boys had another extremely tough week. They had a game against divisional rival Triton, who the Crusaders lost to earlier in the season 52-48. Delsea got their revenge on the Mustangs with a 70-58 victory.  Nate Cox had a huge game for the Crusaders, scoring 20 points and gaining five steals. Brice Parks scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, while Javon Gordon scored 16 points and dished six assists. Rodney Price grabbed 10 rebounds and had two blocks. For Triton, Mike Wright was deadly scoring 24 points. He was deadly from beyond the arc, draining 7 3-pointers. Tyrese Dallas scored 12 points.

Delsea would defeat Penns Grove in their next game 59-45. Both Nate Cox and Javon Gordon scored 13 points. Rodney Price had a monster game, scoring 8 points, grabbing 11 boards, and swatting away five shots. Delsea finished out the week with a tough game against Rancocas Valley, in which the Red Devils won 55-53.

Asa Daniels scored 21 points in the win. For Delsea Rodney Price had another big game, scoring 15 points while blocking four shots. The Crusaders’ record now stands at 11-5, and Delsea currently sits atop the Tri-County Diamond division. Delsea will have a big divisional matchup against 5-11 Schalick, followed by a huge game against 11-6 Kingsway. The Crusaders’ will finish their week against 5-11 Vineland.
