John “Jack” Joseph Carty, Jr., age 65, of Franklin Township, NJ, on April 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Joanne Browning (née Rogers) Carty; together for over 48 years and married since 1985. Jack was the devoted father of William John (Ewa) Carty of Franklinville and the adoring grandfather of Jaxon and Thomas, who lovingly called him “Dunk.” He was the loving brother of Michael (Jean) Carty, Barbara (the late Dennis) Graham, Thomas Carty, James (Susan) Carty, and the late William Carty. Jack was the cherished son of the late John Joseph Sr. and Patricia Louise (née Bateman) Carty. He is also survived by his dear aunt, Barbara (Russ) Trout, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends who became like family throughout his life.
Jack was born on December 10, 1959, and raised in Haddon Heights. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School in Mount Ephraim and graduated from Camden County Vocational School in 1979. A lifelong learner and hands-on craftsman, Jack proudly considered himself a graduate of the “School of Life.”
Jack was a skilled heavy equipment operator who spent his career in construction. He began with JESCO Inc. in Williamstown, NJ, where he worked for five years, then continued for another four years at Marich Excavating in Elmer, NJ. He spent more than two decades with Boro Construction in King of Prussia, PA, before retiring in 2020. Jack’s strong work ethic, experience, and quiet dedication earned him the respect of his coworkers and peers.
A proud resident of Franklinville since 1981, Jack embraced life with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He found freedom in riding his Harley, often with Joanne faithfully by his side. Jack was an avid hunter who enjoyed the quiet challenge of deer and turkey seasons and a passionate saltwater fisherman. For over 25 years, Jack and Joanne would camp at Otter Lake Camp Resort in Marshalls Creek, PA, a place that became their second home. There, he could enjoy fishing for big bass and relaxation.
A gifted carpenter, Jack built his own home and frequently helped friends renovate their kitchens and homes. He never hesitated to lend a hand, offering his time, tools, and talents with generosity and skill.
Jack and Joanne shared a deep love for travel and adventure. Together, they visited destinations like Mexico, Cozumel, Newport, RI, and Yellowstone National Park. One of their most memorable trips was to South Dakota, where they explored the region on rented motorcycles. They also enjoyed several cruises, including one to Alaska and a houseboat trip along the Saint Lawrence Seaway. As a family, they spent countless summers at the Jersey Shore, creating cherished memories that will endure for generations.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.
