JESSE OTTWAY BASS – Obituary

Jesse Ottway Bass of Clayton on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.  Age 67.  Husband of 45 years to Barbara (nee Loveday) Bass.  Father of Jennifer (Nicky) Raymond.  Grandfather of Rosemary and Nicholas Raymond.  Brother of Christine Bass, Dorothy Elliot, Patricia Farren, Lorene Bass, and the late Robert and Claire Bass.  Godfather of Amber Loveday, John Seagrave, and Melissa Seagrave.  Brother-in-law of Raymond (Margaret) Loveday, Hazel (Andy) Walters, Marietta (John) Ripley, Peggy (Garry) Purnell, Jessie (John) McCloskey, Chris (Nicole) Raines and the late Dayton Loveday, Jr. and Lisabug.  Uncle to Robert (Danielle) Elliot and all of the Loveday family nieces and nephews.  Son of the late Robert F. and Dorothy C. (nee Drake) Bass.

Jesse was a lifelong resident of Clayton.  He was a union truck driver for 45 years for Consolidated Freightway and later Yellow Freight until his retirement in 2005.  Jesse was a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 107 in Philadelphia.  He loved the casinos (especially playing roulette), driving trucks, hanging out at the Liberty Diner in Clayton with his many friends there.  Most importantly, Jesse loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.  Funeral mass on Saturday at 12:00 PM at Saint Mary’s RC Church, Our Lady of Peace Parish, 32 Carroll Avenue, Williamstown, NJ 08094.  Interment Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Williamstown.  Sign the guest book and send condolences at BarclayFuneralHome.net.
