DELSEA BOYS TRACK PREVIEW

By Jacob Keppen

Watch out for the Delsea Crusaders Boys Track Team. With spring track right around the corner here’s a look at this year’s Delsea Crusader track team. This could be an absolutely special year for Delsea track. The boys kept a lot of their talent from last year, and have some young underclassmen looking to make an impact this year. This team can go as far as they want really. While other schools might be better in certain areas, it’ll be hard to find a team with the versatility that Delsea has. In both the track and field events the Crusaders have athletes who can place high not only in the State Group 2 championship, but in the Meet of Champions. They already took first in the indoor Group 2 championship, now they will look to do the same over Deptford in the outdoor season.

Delsea has a legitimate star in triple jumper Khaliel Burnett. Burnett won 1st at last year’s meet of champions, upsetting Elizabeth star Dodley Thermitus. Burnett has only improved since then, securing the 6th best jump in the nation during the indoor season. Burnett is Delsea’s triple jump record holder and will look to take first at Meet of Champions once again. Another jumper to keep an eye on is Keon Grady. Grady will look to place high in not only the long jump but the high jump as well.

Sticking with the field events, Bill Goldsborough is one to keep an eye on. The Delsea strongman is the best shot put thrower in South Jersey, as shown in his 2nd place finish in the NJSIAA Indoor Meet of Champions. Moving into the track events, Tymir Kizee will look to finish high in the hurdles. Mike Szwed could definitely take first in the 400 meter at the group 2 championship. He came in 2nd in the group state indoor final by .01 and will definitely look to overtake Rahway’s Marvin Polynice. Szwed, along with George Tenenberg, can definitely make the finals of the 800 meter as well. For the longer distance events keep your eyes on Colin Kane and William Mayhew.

Some other athletes to keep an eye on this season are: sophomore pole vaulter Nico Morales, sophomore sprinter Shaikyi Hannah, junior sprinter Aidan Borguet, sophomore sprinter Damir Lomax, and junior sprinter James Vargo.
