Daniel Haynicz on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.  Age 90.  Husband of 64 years to the late Elinor Helen (nee Reese) Haynicz.  Father of Betty Ann (Tom) Huntsinger of Aura and Bill (Kathy) Haynicz of Aura.  Grandfather of Kevin (Jen) Huntsinger, Jeff (Mollie) Huntsinger, Paul Haynicz, Peter (Katy) Haynicz, and Patrick Haynicz.  Great-grandfather of Ryleigh, Raygen, Ava, Rexx, Ella, and Reed Huntsinger and Ellayna and Rowan Haynicz.  Brother of John (Judy) Haynicz, Dr. Peter Haynicz, and the late Catherine Saneck, Anna Toms, Samuel, Michael, and Harry Haynicz.  Brother-in-law of Wilamena “Billie” Haynicz. Son of the late Safron and Mary (nee Wozniak) Haynicz.

                  Dan was owner operator of Haynicz Brothers Orchards with his son, Bill. He was still in the field on the tractor until the day of his passing.  With his brother Mike, the farm was started in 1945 as a vegetable production and wholesale operation. He planted the first peach tree in 1952.  He expanded into direct marketing by opening Orchardview Fruit Market on Rt. 538 and Rt.553.  Dan was not only a farmer but a man with a passion of service to his community and agriculture.  Dan was a member of the Gloucester County Board of Agriculture, the New Jersey Farm Bureau and the American Farm Bureau.  Dan served on the Pioneer Farm Credit Board Advisory Committee.  In 1999 he received the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award from the Gloucester County Board of Agriculture.  He has been on the Board of Directors of the NJ Peach Promotion Council, the National Peach Council and served as chair on the NJ Peach Promotion Council.  He traveled to Washington on numerous occasions to lobby for peach growers and marketers. Dan participated in the NJ Peach Festival for many years and in 1999 was the recipient of the Governor’s Cup for the “best box of peaches” in the festival.  He was chairperson of the Elk Township Zoning Board for 22 years.  Dan was the treasurer of the Elk Township Municipal Utilities Authority, Treasurer of the Elk Township Landowners Association, a member of the Environmental Committee and was a trustee of the Upper Maurice Watershed Advisory Group.  In 1997 he received a plaque in recognition of his fifty years of service to the Aura Volunteer Fire Company.  He was a past member of the Elk Township Board of Education and served as Secretary from 1952-54.  He served on the Elk Township School District Facilities Ad-Hoc Committee in 1992 to build the addition to the school and again from 1999-2000 with the Childhood/Goals 2000.  He was a member of the Aura United Methodist Church serving as trustee and member of the administrative board until his death.
