Jesse McNulty  age 25, of Clayton was arrested Thursday (12/15) on charges of aggravated arson and burglary in connection with a fire  that destroyed a vacant house at 44 West Howard St. in Clayton on Wednesday  (12/14).

The vacant house had been for sale for a year.  One firefighter sustained burns extinguishing the fire and was treated at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Washington Township.

An investigation by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Clayton Police Department led to McNulty as a suspect. After a hospital crisis evaluation, he was placed in jail in default of $50.000 bail.

Fires are such uncertain and dangerous events, to neighbors and those who extinguish them,”  said Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton. “And the origins of arson fires are often difficult to trace. My thanks to the investigators who worked to identify a suspect in this case.”
